Methodological support and (optimal) design of new components and their manufacturing processes, (aero)structures and intelligent and efficient mechanical / electrical / electronic / mechatronic systems for new means of transportation (electric, autonomous, connected), through the intensive application of digital twins and integration of technologies.

  • Digital twin of material transformation processes, combining physics-based simulation models and real on-line sensing data. Application to the investigation of the resulting process-morphology-properties relationships, to the fine-tuning of plant processes, their monitoring and re-optimization and, ultimately, to the real-time adaptive control of the production means, as a strategy to be developed towards defect-free manufacturing.
  • Digital twin of intelligent and efficient mechanical / electrical / electronic / mechatronic systems (Model Based System Engineering and X-in-the-Loop methodologies) to support the design, development and validation of actuation systems, electrohydraulic actuation, power converters, thermal management, sensing and navigation, etc. considering hardware and software components. Application to drivetrain (brakes, suspension, steering), powertrain (electric motors, converters, storage systems) and ADAS/remote operation/teleoperation/autonomous systems.
  • Digital twin for the optimization of production processes from the logic of the manufacturing process, demand, supply and production capacity. Application to layout design, improvement (and design) of material movement processes, virtual commissioning, warehouse operations, etc.
