LIFE MULTI-AD is committed to using anaerobic technology in the agri-food industry, with a focus on techno-economic and environmental sustainability, assuming wastewater treatment as part of the production process.
The main objective of the LIFE Multi-AD 4 AgroSMEs project is to develop and industrialize a fully automated system for the treatment of wastewater generated by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the food sector (F&D). This technology is based on the design of a high-performance anaerobic multiphase reactor patented by AEMA and its production will be customized according to the specific needs of each customer.
The result of the project is a high performance multi-stage anaerobic reactor, specifically designed for the treatment of wastewater from agri-food SMEs. Its main advantages are high organic matter removal capacity, low cost, compact design and automation of the operation.
ITA’s work has been the design and industrialization of the anaerobic reactor. For this purpose, complex simulation models and scale-up acceleration strategies have been developed, which have made it possible to move from a 100-liter pilot to a 100 m3 industrial reactor.
